As spring turns to summer in the Pacific Northwest, the University of Washington campus comes alive with the energy of graduation season. And for UW Professional & Continuing Education students, this moment is more than a ceremony — it's a milestone that marks transformation, resilience and a bold investment in the future.
On June 17, nearly 200 learners gathered with their classmates and instructors at UWPCE’s Grad Celebration. Together, they celebrated a personal and professional journey that reflects the heart of UWPCE’s mission: to expand access to a world-class education and create lifelong learning pathways for people of all backgrounds.

A Testament to Lifelong Learning
UWPCE graduates represent a dynamic and diverse community of learners who balance full-time careers, family responsibilities and personal commitments while pursuing rigorous academic programs. The UWPCE program line is part of UW Continuum College, the university’s lifelong learning unit.

“At Continuum, our goal is to break down barriers and create more pathways to make education possible for all types of learners,” says Rovy Branon, vice provost of UW Continuum College. “The accomplishments of our UWPCE grads are all the more awesome in the context of the complexities of their busy lives. We honor the drive it takes to invest in yourself when your list of responsibilities extends far beyond the classroom.”
One of the benefits of completing a UWPCE program is the eligibility to join the UW Alumni Association. UWAA Executive Director Paul Rucker encouraged graduates to take advantage of the network. "You’re now part of something truly special, a powerful Husky community built on connection, opportunity and impact,” he says. “We’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see how you help carry the university’s legacy forward. Welcome to the UW Alumni family!”
Earning certificates in everything from cybersecurity and human resources management to UX and visual interface design, these students have taken proactive steps to future-proof their skills in an evolving workforce. Their achievements show the real-world value of continuing education: flexible formats, practical curriculum and direct connections to industries shaping the economy of tomorrow. Many have transitioned into new roles, earned promotions or launched entirely new careers thanks to the knowledge and tools gained through their UWPCE experience.
A Community Built for Support and Success
The success of UWPCE graduates also reflects the supportive ecosystem behind them. Instructors bring deep industry knowledge and a passion for teaching. Enrollment coaches and support specialists offer personalized guidance every step of the way. And advisory board members ensure the curriculum aligns with emerging market needs.
"The UW Certificate in Digital Marketing gave me the strategic tools I was missing to turn creative work into measurable brand value."
This shared commitment to learner success is what sets UWPCE apart. It’s not just about education; it’s about creating momentum and opening doors for individuals who are ready to grow, shift and lead.
"Our UWPCE community's support is invaluable. My students cherish opportunities to connect and celebrate important milestones,” says Jay Schneider, UW Certificate in Game Design instructor and Legacy in Teaching Award winner.
Inspiration for the Road Ahead
Graduation may mark the end of a program, but for UWPCE students, it’s just the beginning. Whether they go on to new roles, continued studies or entrepreneurial ventures, this moment serves as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when curiosity meets courage.
“The UW Certificate in Digital Marketing helped me connect the dots between my background in graphic design, fashion and interior design,” says Josefina Cuadra, UW Certificate in Digital Marketing alumni. “It gave me the strategic tools I was missing to turn creative work into measurable brand value.”
The graduates of 2025 are proof that learning never stops. Their journey affirms the mission of UWPCE and inspires the next generation of learners to believe in their potential, no matter where they start.
